from the library

This was the cover of the 1966 edition of the Ladybird children's book on Commercial Vehicles in the long running and extensive series. It provided artwork of 48 trucks in use in the UK at the time, plus some in Europe.  The books were also translated into other languages.

Although the red tanker is shown as right hand drive in 1966 the reg plates in UK were still issued as silver digits over black background, from memory UK only started cream plates front, yellow at rear around 1973/4. Would be an interesting book to get hold of, the Ladybird and Observer books plus 'I Spy' were all the rage back then plus Ian Allan if you were a trainspotter, it was also the age of getting transport cards in breakfast cereals and tea packets to collect.
