the Frederik VIII of the DFDS

Two postcards of the Frederik VIII (11,850 grt, 542 ft [165 metres] long, 62 ft [19 metres] wide, twin propellers driven by two 4-cylinder engines), the second seems to be depicted in the narrow strait between Helsingør (Denmark) and Helsingborg (Sweden). This was built at the Vulcan Shipyard in Stettin, Germany, in 1914 the flagship of the Scandinavian-American Line's fleet of four trans-Atlantic steamers and was in service until 1936 when sold for scrap.  From then on the DFDS (Det Forenede Dampskibs-Selskab - "United Steamship Company") concentrated its passenger services on North Sea and Scandinavian routes, today under the name of DFDS Seaways.
