Nürnberg, the most German city

Nürnberg is of course renowned as the city at one end of Germany's first railway (see earlier post); unfortunately it is also renowned for the huge rallies held there in the 1930s by the Nazis and after the war, the war crimes trials.  The reason Nürnberg was chosen for the big rallies is that it was considered by top Nazis including Hitler to be the most German of German cities.

Published photos and paintings of the city before WW2 certainly show it to be extremely picturesque.  Unfortunately like other German cities it was substantially destroyed by bombing during the war.  Much was later restored, but it isn't the same now as it once was.
