a busy scene at Cross Creek, 1953

Yet another photo that there was no room for in the book Wellington Transport Memories: at Cross Creek, the bottom of the famous Rimutaka Incline, the passengers on a special train headed by AB 747 (which would not have come down the incline, but would have been coupled up here) have the opportunity to stretch their legs in the railyard of the settlement while train remarshalling takes place. Two tracks over, Wairarapa type railcar RM 5 awaits departure up the hill in the direction of Wellington, once the line is clear.
